STREET, noun [Latin , strewed or spread. See Strew.]
1. Properly, a paved way or road; but in usage, any way or road in a city, chiefly a main way, in distinction from a lane or alley.
2. Among the people of New England, any public highway.
3. Streets, plural, any public way, road or place.

STREET.

1. A road in a village or city. In common parlance the word street is equivalent to highway.

2. A permission to the public for the space of eight, or even of six years, to use a street without bar or impediment, is evidence from which a dedication to the public maybe inferred.

In general—A street is a road or public way in a city, town or village, laid out and open for travel by the public. Bobbins v. McGehee, 127 Ga. 431, 56 S, E. 461.

Same—Includes bridge.—”When the corporate limits of a city are so extended as to embrace therein a portion of the public highway, and a bridge over a stream crossing the same, the municipal authorities at once acquire the right to exercise jurisdiction over the bridge, and are chargeable with the duty of keeping it in repair after the county authorities have expressly relinquished such jurisdiction, which they may do with or without the assent of the municipal authorities.” Commissioners of Polk County v.
