Arch / Arches

Comprehending laws and contracts is impossible, unless we first learn the meaning of the words and phrases they contain.

Re: Arch / Arches

Post by Firestarter »

At one time I was really looking at arches in my home town Amsterdam. This "obsession" hasn't continued, but once in a while I still notice interesting "arches".

The MI5 building Thames House, Millbank, London, features another arch...
Image

I'm not sure about all the occult meanings of the triangle emblem for MI5 (M=1000; I=1; V=5), but at the top is the "I" for the all-seeing eye (of Lucifer, Odin or Horus?).
And the crown is in the centre, in control...

See the following church at the Prinsengracht "De Duif" (the dove) from the 1850s, designed by Theo Molkenboer.
See the gold eagle (that isn't a dove!) in the blue circle in the triangle, above the 2 arches, and below the cross, 6 pillars at ground level, 3 triangles.
Image

Arguably the most famous Amsterdam church is the Westerkerk (West church), with the tower Westertoren for centuries the highest building in the city, designed by Hendrick Cornelisz de Keyser and built from 1620 to 1631 (with the tower finished in 1638).

I was looking at the tower one day and noticed 2 arches (gates) right above the clock. And also what looks like an arch below the Amsterdam coat of arms.
I also see lots of symbolism in the rest of the church, but not quite sure what to make of it.
Image

Note the Von Habsburg crown on top (I can remember when the colour was yellow instead of blue).
Amsterdam had supported Holy Roman Emperor Maximilian I (Von Habsburg, 1459 - 1519) in some wars in the Netherlands, and were "rewarded" with the right to use "his" crown in the Amsterdam coat of arms (also with the crown). Maximilian I was installed as Knight of the Garter by King Henry VII of England in 1489.

See the inside of the Westerkerk, with the arches and pillars.

Another church in (the east of) Amsterdam is the Christus Koningkerk (Christ King church), at the James Wattstraat.
It was finished in 1959, and only in use as a church until 1996.

The strange thing is that it doesn't look like a church at all.
Instead of a tower, it features a double arch, with the cross at the centre on top (this photo is probably from the 1960s).

It reminds me of the following arch that I've previously posted about.
To me it looks like the "cross" at the Christus Koningkerk symbolises both "Christ" and the "sun"...
Firestarter wrote: Sat Apr 03, 2021 7:57 pmThis is how it looked a long time ago, before WW II probably. Picture taken from the roof of the Amsterdams Lyceum?
There is a statue of a woman flanked by 2 lions, with behind her the twin pillars, with the arched sun on top, with 13 rays.
Behind, below it are 6 arches on both sides of the twin pillars, making a total of 13 arches.

.

South of the Christus Koningkerk is Frankendael.
Unfortunately the following isn't completely on-topic, but Frankendael does feature a gate, which could be called an "arch", with the gold Mercurius in the blue circle...
Image

Frankendael was orginally a vacation home and later become home to the wealthy Gildemeester family. Frankendael still exists as a park.
In 1794, when the Batavian Republic (Bataafse Republiek) was founded as a threat to the House of Orange-Nassau, Jan Gildemeester got an important government position.
When shortly thereafter the French army of Napoleon invaded, to turn the Netherlands into a monarchy, Kraijenhoff and Gildemeester welcomed the French with open arms!

They had the wonderful idea to plant a freedom tree (Vrijheidsboom) on the Dam, so they took a spruce tree from... Frankendael that sort of was the start of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
So in a sense, Frankendael IS the foundation of the Netherlands.

See the fountain with the 3 statues - Amphitrite, Triton (their son) and Neptunus - made in 1714, with the Frankendael house in the background.

Continuing the CHURCHES theme:

NAVES and NAVIES.

WOR SHIP and WAR SHIP.

Religious wars have been going on for centuries and yet the CHURCH elders are always promoting peace?

(The CRUsades were fought under the banner of the CROSS).

ImageRELIGION enters into the CONTRACT of the ARCH by Prince Arthur, on Flickr

The nave is the central part of a church, stretching from the (normally western) main entrance or rear wall, to the transepts, or in a church without transepts, to the chancel. When a church contains side aisles, as in a basilica-type building, the strict definition of the term "nave" is restricted to the central aisle. In a broader, more colloquial sense, the nave includes all areas available for the lay worshippers, including the side-aisles and transepts. Either way, the nave is distinct from the area reserved for the choir and clergy

Etymology

The term nave is from navis, the Latin word for ship, an early Christian symbol of the Church as a whole, with a possible connection to the "Ship of St. Peter" or the Ark of Noah. The term may also have been suggested by the keel shape of the vaulting of a church. In many Nordic and Baltic countries a model ship is commonly found hanging in the nave of a church, and in some languages the same word means both 'nave' and 'ship', as for instance Danish skib, Swedish skepp, Dutch schip or Spanish nave.

NOAH’s ARK and the ARK of the COVENANT – stories that have withstood the sands of time

ImageANCIENT EGYPT entered into the CONTRACT of the ARCH p2 by Prince Arthur, on Flickr

KING KHUFU’S EGYPTIAN SOLAR BARGE

The Ship - a 20-ton, 142-foot-long vessel - a solar barque, or solar boat was found buried next to Khufu’s Great Pyramid in 1954.

The Khufu Ship is an intact full-size solar barque from ancient Egypt that was sealed into a pit around 2500 BC during the Fourth Dynasty of the Old Kingdom of Egypt at the foot of the Great Pyramid of pharaoh Khufu in the Giza pyramid complex. Like other buried Ancient Egyptian ships, it was apparently part of the extensive grave goods intended for use in the afterlife.

Khufu's ship is one of the oldest, largest and best-preserved vessels from antiquity. It is 43.4 meters (142 ft) long and 5.9 metres (19 ft) wide.

It is of the type known as a "SOLAR BARGE", a ritual vessel to carry the resurrected king with the sun god Ra across the heavens.

Prince Arthur wrote: Thu Jul 15, 2021 7:52 amAn esoteric ARKansas 'Wizard of OZ' connection?

Dorothy : "Toto, I've a feeling we're not in KANSAS anymore. We must be over the RAINBOW".
I don't know the relevance of "Arkansas" in this context, but DO see a good explanation in the religiosity promoted by the Theosophical Society.

The mother-in-law of Wizard of Oz author L. Frank Baum, radical feminist Matilda Joslyn Gage, was a member of the Theosophical Society, in 1892 she intitiated her daughter, Maud Gage, and Frank Baum into the Ramayana Theosophical Society in Chicago.

The Wonderful Wizard of Oz (1900) is the most Theosophical of Baum’s stories.
The land of Oz is the magnificent but illusory world in which our "ego" lives; but Kansas is our true "id" home.
Dorothy (meaning “Gift of God”) is the human soul looking for development through a spiritual journey of self-discovery over the yellow brick road to reach the green (emerald) city, transcending our ego to ultimately become enlightened (or at least attempt to).

Her 3 companions represent Theosophical themes. The Cowardly Lion is the "animal", physical prowess and weakness. The Tin Woodman is the "mineral" emotional self in search of love. The Scarecrow is the "vegetable", fallible understanding of life. And the dog Toto?!?
According to Blavatsky's "The Secret Doctrine", human consciousness "has to pass through its mineral, vegetable, and animal forms before the Light of the Logos (the spirit of the universe) is awakened in the animal man".

The Wizard of Oz has also popularised witchcraft, with the the Good Witch and the Evil Witch.
While the Wizard himself apparently represent the world teacher (maitreya).

Within the "green" agenda, there is an obvious goal to promote electricity as THE (only?) form of energy consumption. Electricity for Baum (and for Theosophy in general?) had "magical, spiritual, and moral dimensions".
Blavatsky wrote about electricity and in particular about "fohat", which she called the “essence of cosmic electricity” (I don't have a clue what this is supposed to mean): https://www.theosophyforward.com/theoso ... zard-of-oz https://www.theosophyforward.com/theoso ... -part-four

FS - Good analysis - thanks.

I have also noted that the co-ordinates for ARKansas can be interpreted to have a Masonic connection if you are that way inclined.

ARKansas Latitude 33° 00′ N to 36° 30′ N

Also, the Capital of ARKansas is Little Rock

LITTLE ROCK is bang in the centre of the state - a bit like a keystone in an ARCH...

Some trivia:

Bill Clinton was born in ARKansas.
Hillary Rodham and Bill Clinton lived in the Hillcrest neighborhood of Little Rock from 1977 to 1979 while he was Arkansas Attorney General.

In ARCHitecture the CAPITAL or chapiter forms the topmost member of a column. It mediates between the column and the load thrusting down upon it, broadening the area of the column's supporting surface.
