One of the ‘categories’ the Nobel peace prize is awarded to, is the supposed brave politicians standing up to evil authoritarian governments. With the Nobel prize as corrupt as the Norwegian royals that control it, these politicians getting awarded are probably even more corrupt than the average politician.
Of course no Nobel prize will ever be awarded to the many victims of the dictatorial royals…
On 10 October, Maria Corina Machado was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize "for her tireless work promoting democratic rights for the people of Venezuela and for her struggle to achieve a just and peaceful transition from dictatorship to democracy".
Machado dedicated the prize to the "suffering people of Venezuela" and "President Trump for his decisive support of our cause".
Machado is a strange choice for a number of reasons. For one she is so unknown that there weren’t many English language (or Dutch) articles about her before she was pushed into the spotlight by the Nobel committee.
Usually these Nobel peace prize winners have been in prison and house arrest for years, but in Maria Machado’s case we get a strange tale that is contradicted by the facts…
On 1 August 2024, Machado published a letter in the Wall Street Journal claiming that she had gone into hiding, "fearing for my life, my freedom, and that of my fellow countrymen from the dictatorship of Nicolás Maduro".
Since then she continued to speak at mass protests and (other) political rallies!
On 9 January 2025 for example, Machado spoke at a rally in Caracas and government forces supposedly tried to arrest her…
Since 10 October, Maria Machado has repeatedly bragged about making phone calls.
If somebody is hiding at a secret location, using the phone is arguably the dumbest thing you could do. What’s next?!? Will they sell stories to the gullible masses that genius assassins will shoot politicians while carrying the surveillance equipment called mobile phone?!?
As if using the phone isn’t bad enough, Machado even gave details on some of these phone calls, which would make it even easier to trace these calls!
After her Nobel prize was announced, Maria Corina Machado made phone calls to the Nobel committee, Edmundo Gonzalez, and bizarrely also phoned Donald Trump (why would she call him of all people?).
Machado gave an interview with the Spanish newspaper El Pais, in which she boasted about speaking with president Trump:

Her English Wikipedia page looks like auto-translated from the original Spanish version…
Maria Corina Machado comes from an elite Venezuelan family (we wouldn’t want a poor peasant winning a prestigious prize would we?).
This makes her the perfect choice for opposition to make Maduro more popular, who claims to be some sort of hero against the establishment bourgeoise. While her close affiliation with Trump (and other far right zionists) helps Maduro even more…
The Machado-founded Súmate led a petition drive for the failed 2004 Venezuelan recall referendum. After the referendum, members of Súmate including Machado, were charged with treason and conspiracy, but for some reason the trial was suspended indefinitely, effectively dismissing it.
Súmate received funds from National Endowment for Democracy (the CIA-front that’s specialised in ‘colour revolutions’).
For some reason most of this information has been deleted from Machado’s current Wikipedia page, see the 2017 archived version:

For more than 20 years, Machado has been promoted by US presidents (she was actually nominated for the Nobel Prize by the Trump administration).
In May 2005, Machado was welcomed in the White House by president George Bush Jr. After the meeting a White House spokesperson said, "the President expressed his concerns about efforts to harass and intimidate Súmate and its leadership".
On 21 March 2014, Machado appeared as an alternate envoy at the request of Panama at the Organization of American States (OAS), to speak about the situation in Venezuela.

In 2018, Machado was named one of BBC's 100 Women.
In 2024, Machado won the Václav Havel Human Rights Prize and the European Parliament’s Sakharov Prize.
In 2025, Time magazine named her one of its 100 most influential people.
Of course Machado supported Yankee puppet for Venezuelan president Juan Guaidó.
On 1 February 2019, Machado announced she would run for president if Juan Guaidó were to call elections.
In 2023, Machado won the opposition primary to become the unity candidate for the 2024 presidential election. On 30 June 2023, Machado was barred from holding office for 15 years, over her support of the crimes by Juan Guaidó.
Machado named Corina Yoris as her substitute to run, who in turn selected Edmundo González Urrutia as the opposition “unity candidate” for president.
Maria Corina Machado has openly called for a foreign intervention to remove Maduro as president, over which she has mingled with the second Trump administration. So the Nobel committee doesn’t support democracy at all, but foreign coups…
Naturally Machado has publicly expressed her solidarity with Israel following the 7 October attacks, and thanked Israel for its support for Edmundo González as president and previously of Guaidó. Machado promised to reestablish diplomatic relations with Israel, which were cut in 2009 over the 2008–2009 Gaza war:

I would think that another corrupt Venezuelan opposition politician from an elite family, Leopoldo López, would fit a persecuted freedom fighter much better (I’m NOT saying that he is any good though…).

On the other hand, portraying the Socialist (!) Juan Guaido as a “Yankee puppet” won’t make him popular for most Venezuelans...
López is not only affiliated with Machado, but also the political mentor of Juan Guaidó.
See Leopoldo López speaking at a rally, with to his right María Corina Machado and Guaidó behind him to his right, 23 January 2014.

Leopoldo López’s mother, Antonieta Mendoza de López, was an executive at the Cisneros Group, while his father, Leopoldo López Gil, held an executive position at the El Nacional newspaper, and in 2019 became a Member of the European Parliament for the Spanish Partido Popular (PP).
In 1998, Leopoldo López and his mother were found guilty for awarding a state-funded grant to the Primero Justicia Civil Association of which López was a member, while they were both working for Petróleos de Venezuela S.A. (PDVSA).
In 2008, Venezuela's Comptroller's Office disqualified López from holding public office for 6 years, following allegations of nepotism and misappropriation of funds.
On 18 February 2014, during the crisis in Venezuela, Leopoldo López was charged with arson and conspiracy after he had called for protests. In September 2015, López was found guilty of public incitement to violence through “subliminal messages” and criminal association, and was sentenced to 13 years and 9 months in prison.
On 8 July 2017, Lopez was transferred to house arrest and released on 30 April 2019 in the 2019 Venezuelan uprising. After taking refuge in the Spanish Embassy in Caracas, López fled Venezuela in October 2020:
