The "V" sign is definitely not what people think it is. While I don't think every use is nefarious (a lot of victors use it as a sign of "victory" in the sports world without thinking anything beyond the fact that they won the race/game/etc.) a lot of times it is used esoterically.

I can't view the links you posted due to my very slow internet, so sorry if this is redundant. One of the first places I remember reading about the "V" sign symbol speak was in Texe Marrs' book, "Codex Magica."
