The official story on what these 3 vertical crosses in the Amsterdam coat of arms represent, gives an interesting possibility of what the X means (to Elon). It is called a saltire, Saint Andrew's Cross or the crux decussata.
This could mean that the X is another celebration (like the Christian cross) of the crucifixion of "Jesus" (or any other crucifixion).

The X seems to be another Roman symbol (with probably a more ancient origin).
